MPP Michael Ford taking leave of absence
Michael Ford, Ontario’s minister of citizenship and multiculturalism, is taking a leave of absence from his role as an MPP.
Ford — who is the nephew of Premier Doug Ford and MPP for York South–Weston — made the announcement in a statement sent to reporters Friday.
“Earlier today, I spoke with the Premier and informed him of my decision to take a leave of absence from my Cabinet responsibilities as Minister of Citizenship and Multiculturalism, effective immediately,” Ford said. “This decision was made after much thought, and while it weighs very heavily on me, it is necessary for me to prioritize my health and well-being over the next couple of months.
“I appreciate his support and that of the residents of York-South Weston in making this difficult decision, and I look forward to returning to Queen’s Park in the near future.”
A spokesperson for Ford told CBC News Friday afternoon that there is no firm date for his return to work, but said that information will be shared once that determination is made.
