Pedestrian dead after being hit by tow truck driver in north-west Toronto
A pedestrian has died after being struck by the driver of a tow truck in Toronto’s north-west end on Monday night.
The crash happened on Weston Road, near Rogers Road.
Toronto Police Service (TPS) said they were called to that area shortly before 7 p.m. for a personal injury motor vehicle collision.
Speaking to the media near the scene, Duty Insp. Brian Maslowski said officers immediately began doing life-saving measures before paramedics arrived.
Once there, they transported an adult to trauma centre in critical condition.
Toronto police later said that the pedestrian, who is a 40-year-old man, was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
The exact circumstances leading up to and surrounding this crash are unknown at this time.
Maslowski would only say that it is reported that the victim was in the “middle turning lane” of the intersection when he was hit.
“It’s still very early in the investigation, and that’s why we’re seeking the assistance of anyone who was in the area and witnesses. We’re still gathering information,” he said, adding that there was a lot of vehicular traffic in the area at the time of the collision.
Charges have not been laid against the tow truck driver at this point, Maslowski said.
Drivers should expect road closures and delays in the area near the collision and are being urged by police to drive with caution and according to the weather conditions.
