Residential parking ban in Winnipeg coming to help clear snow

Winnipeg residents need to find a new place to park starting Wednesday or risk being towed.

The city announced Tuesday it will begin residential street snow clearing on Wednesday starting at 7 p.m. and it will be in effect until 7 a.m. The clearing will run until Dec. 21.

During that time, a residential parking ban will be in effect, preventing street parking in specific zones while snow clearing takes place.

The zone schedule is as follows:

  • Dec. 18 from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Dec. 19 in zones C, F, H, N, S, and U;
  • Dec. 19 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. in zones D, I, K, O, R, and T;
  • Dec. 19 from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Dec. 20 in zones E, G, J, L, M, P, and Q;
  • Dec. 20 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. in zones B and V; and
  • Dec. 20 from 7 p.m. to Dec. 21 at 7 a.m. in zone A.

Residents can look up their zone online through the Know Your Zone app.

While the residential parking ban is in effect, the city’s winter route parking bans will be suspended. Drivers can park overnight on designated winter routes from 7 p.m. Wednesday to 7 a.m. on Saturday. The winter route parking ban will come back into effect when the residential parking ban ends.

In a news release, the city said crews are currently removing snow from sidewalks and paths on main routes and will start plowing snow from Priority 2 Streets Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
