3rd person charged with 1st-degree murder of man found outside Winnipeg church in 2022

A third person has been charged in connection with the killing of a 20-year-old man who was found dead outside a church in Winnipeg’s North End in late 2022.
Police arrested Hazel Flett, 37, on Wednesday, in the death of Brooklyn Elijah Hiebert. Flett is charged with first-degree murder and is in custody, police said.
Police found Hiebert’s body outside a church on Flora Avenue, between Robinson and King streets, after responding to a call about suspicious circumstances around 3 p.m. on Dec. 30, 2022.
Police believe Hiebert was fatally assaulted nearby on Selkirk Avenue, and his body was moved to the church and abandoned.
Christopher Kyle Wattman, 36 at the time, was arrested on July 7, 2024, and charged with first-degree murder in connection with Hiebert’s death.
Victoria Lee Andrews, 26 at the time, was arrested on Oct. 15 and charged with first-degree murder.
Police believe the three accused and Hiebert were acquaintances.
