3rd suspect sought in killing of Ontario man in Winnipeg in September: police

Police have issued a murder warrant for a third suspect in the death of an Ontario man killed after being abducted in Winnipeg in September, police say.

Chad Jason Dandan, 24, is facing charges of first-degree murder, kidnapping and extortion in the death of Zeyad Vifan Shammo, 22.

On Sept. 10, 2024, police say, they determined Shammo had been abducted after responding to a missing persons report at a home on Bridge Lake Drive in the southwestern part of the city.

He was found dead in a home on Bristol Avenue, near St. Luc Street, on Sept. 13.

Sonny Balemba and Robert James Chaykowski, both 26 and from Winnipeg, were charged with first-degree murder, kidnapping and extortion on Sept. 16. and detained in custody.

Police believe Dandan remains in the area of northern Manitoba. He is described as a South Asian male, about 5 feet 6 inches tall with a medium build and weighing about 140 pounds.

Winnipeg Police’s major crimes unit say he might be armed and dangerous, and should not be approached.

Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is asked to contact 911 and to refer to WPS file C24-161487.
