Senior body checked while walking with co-worker in downtown Winnipeg skywalk

A man is facing an assault charge after a senior was body checked in the Winnipeg skywalk, police say.
In a Saturday news release, police say they were called about 10:15 Friday morning to help off-duty officers who witnessed the assault.
After a “brief struggle,” the off-duty officers arrested a man, 49, and called for backup, according to the release.
The victim, who is in her 70s, told police was walking through the skywalk with a co-worker when she moved to the side to avoid a man walking straight toward her. She said the man body-checked her without provocation, causing her to fall.
The woman struck a window and railing, causing injuries to her upper body, according to police.
A man was taken into custody and charged with assault causing bodily harm.
