Cochrane RCMP reopen Highway 1A to traffic after grass fire contained

Cochrane RCMP say a grass fire along Highway 1A, between Range Road 60 and Morley Road, has been contained and the highway has reopened to traffic.

Traffic was being rerouted for a period of time on Tuesday afternoon as Highway 1A was not passable, according to an earlier news release from the RCMP.

Eastbound traffic was being diverted to Highway 1 at Morley Road while westbound traffic was being diverted back to Cochrane and Highway 22 at Ghost Lake Cottages, the police said.

The local fire department and Volker Stevin, which helps maintain highways in the area, responded to the fire.

Alberta Wildfire estimated the fire to be about four hectares in size.
