GO train service resuming on Barrie line after fatal crash
GO train service on the Barrie line is returning to normal after a train hit a vehicle in Vaughan Tuesday, leaving one man dead.
Rail traffic stopped for more than three hours in the area following the collision, but Metrolinx said in an update on its website after 3:30 p.m. that it has been given permission to resume service.
“As we work hard to return to regular service, customers may experience delays to their afternoon commute,” Metrolinx said.
The collision happened south of Rutherford GO station near Rivermede and Bowes Roads, according to York Regional Police. Officers were called to the scene shortly after 12:20 p.m.
Police said the man, who was driving the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Earlier, Metrolinx said customers on the way to Highway 407 station could take a bus shuttle to Rutherford GO to connect with service.
The Aurora GO 14:57 p.m. to Union Station 15:47 p.m. train was cancelled due to the collision, but the Union Station 14:54 to Bradford GO 16:07 train has been reinstated with a delay of 40 minutes, according to Metrolinx.
Metrolinx said there are delays affecting the southbound Allandale Waterfront GO to Union Station and the northbound Union Station to Bradford GO.
Police continue to investigate.
