2 injured as car hits light pole, trees, shrubs and fence on Centre Street N.

Two men were sent to hospital early Friday morning after a single-vehicle collision on Centre Street North.

At approximately 3:30 a.m., a grey Hyundai Genesis was travelling south at a high rate of speed and passed through the intersection at 34th Avenue N.E., according to a police news release.

The driver lost control of the vehicle, police said, and it travelled through the front yards of a number of homes in the 3300 block of Centre Street.

The vehicle struck a light pole, two large pine trees, thickets of shrubs, small trees and wooden fences, police said.

According to police, the vehicle then became airborne. It landed on an empty plot of land, then rolled and flipped multiple times before it came to a stop on its passenger side.

Two men, both in their early 20s, were taken to hospital in life-threatening condition.

Excessive speed and alcohol are being investigated as factors, police said.

Police are hoping to speak to anyone who might have witnessed the collision. Call the police non-emergency line at 403-266-1234 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
