The Canadian women’s basketball team will be playing in Paris this summer – thanks to a big assist from Spain.
Canada missed a chance to win its way into the Olympic Games after suffering an 86-82 loss to Japan on Sunday at the FIBA Olympic qualifying tournament in Sopron, Hungary.
Japan’s victory qualified Olympic spots for both themselves and Spain.
In order for Canada to claim a spot in the Olympic tournament, Spain had to beat Hungary in the last game of the tourney.
The hosts took a 46-27 lead into halftime of that game, but the Spanish squad roared back, outscoring the Hungarians 23-8 in the final quarter to earn both a 73-72 win and an Olympic spot for Canada.
More to come.
