Calgary police lay murder charge in missing person case, expect more arrests
Murder charges have been laid against one man and Calgary police say they expect to make further arrests in the case of a missing man.
Christopher Stevenson was last seen in August 2023, investigators now say he is believed to have been killed that same month.
After what police describe as an “extensive investigation,” including searches of a downtown Calgary home and a rural property in Rocky View County, police arrested and charged one person.
Shaun Alexander Folk, 47, faces a second-degree murder charge but police say they expect to make further arrests.
Investigators believe there are others with information about the homicide.
Homicide unit Staff Sgt. Sean Gregson said police worked with the RCMP during what he described as a “complex” probe.
“This has been an extremely complex investigation where several resources were used from across our service, as well as several resources from the RCMP,” said Gregson.
“We now believe we have a good understanding of the events leading up to Christopher’s death and the days following his murder. Our investigators are continuing to move this investigation forward and are determined to hold those involved accountable.”
Victim’s dog found in near truck
Stevenson was last seen on Aug. 24, 2023 entering a building in the 600 block of 6th Avenue S.E.
Police said in the days leading up to his disappearance he was driving a grey 2021 Dodge Ram truck.
That vehicle was later located outside of Calgary city limits, along with Stevenson’s dog, which was roaming in the nearby area.
A month after his disappearance, investigators searched a rural property north of the city “in search of evidence related to his disappearance,” according to police at the time.
