Elderly woman suffers ‘life-altering’ injuries after being struck by vehicle in grocery store parking lot

Calgary police are investigating a collision that left an elderly woman with ‘life-altering’ injuries after she was hit by a car in the parking lot of a Sobeys in southwest Calgary on Tuesday.

The woman, a pedestrian in her 90s, was hit by a Honda Civic driven by a woman in her 50s at around 10:20 a.m. on Christmas Eve, according to police.

The driver of the was travelling south in the parking lot of the Sobeys at 555 Strathcona Boulevard S.W. near the front entrance of the grocery store. 

Investigators say she turned sharply into a laneway, striking the elderly woman.

The woman in her 90s was taken to hospital with ‘life-altering’ injuries. The driver of the vehicle was uninjured and remained at the scene.

Alcohol, speed or drugs are not believed to be factors in this collision.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or may have footage from the area at the time it occurred to contact them.
