Man dies in southeast Calgary house fire
One man has died in a house fire in southeast Calgary early Friday morning.
Crews responded to 911 calls around 3 a.m. in the 500 block of Penworth Way S.E., the fire department said in a release.
They found smoke and flames coming from a single story home.
Three residents managed to get out of the house, one of them having suffered burns and smoke inhalation.
Crews brought a large blaze under control in the basement, where they later found a 71-year-old man who had died in the fire.
A pet also died in the fire.
The fire caused significant damage in the basement and on the main floor, but it did not spread to other homes.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
