Murder charge laid in southeast Calgary hotel shooting

Calgary police have charged a man in connection with the death of a 29-year-old man whose body was found at a hotel in the southeast community of Shawnessy.

In late March, police said they responded to a shots fired complaint at the Super 8 hotel on Shawville Road S.E. 

Upon arrival, police said they located one man who was suffering from what appeared to be gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Following an autopsy, the victim was identified as Liban Abdirahman, 29.

On Thursday, Ahmed Abdi Hassan, 29, was charged with second-degree murder after being located in Red Deer, Alta., police said in a release sent Thursday afternoon.

Hassan is set to appear in court on July 11.
