A fire that tore through an apartment building on Deer Run Boulevard in southeast Calgary on Monday night has left 36 people without a home for an “undetermined” amount of time.

On Monday night, fire crews said they responded to reports of smoke and fire coming from the third floor of a building at 13531 Deer Run Blvd. S.E.

“Due to the large volume of smoke on arrival and growing fire conditions on the roof of the structure, responding crews called a working fire and a second alarm,” reads a statement from the Calgary Fire Department.

Calgary police and Alberta Health Services were on scene to assist fire crews. No injuries or fatalities have been reported.

The Calgary Emergency Management Agency and Red Cross are working with the fire department to assess evacuee needs, including reunions with pets at scene.

Those evacuated from the building will be displaced for an undetermined amount of time, Calgary fire said.
