1 dead in plane crash near Fort Vermillion

An investigation is underway after a plane crashed in a field near Township Road 1090 and Range Road 152 that took place near Fort Vermillion Saturday night.

Upon arrival at the scene shortly after 8 p.m., emergency workers and Fort Vermillion RCMP officers discovered that the pilot, who was the sole occupant of the plane, was dead.

The crash affected power to all homes and a number of rural areas in and around Fort Vermillion. Work is underway to restore power, but there is no timeline at the moment for when it will be restored.

RCMP officers are holding the scene for investigators from the Transport Safety Board.

Fort Vermillion is 661 kilometres northwest of Edmonton.
