Two gas leaks on a residential street north of Fanshawe Park Road forced the evacuation of 14 homes, closed streets and re-routed school pick up at a London elementary school Monday afternoon.
Firefighters were called to Philbrook Drive, west of Adelaide Street, and set up a perimeter just after 3 p.m. They said the source of the leak was not yet known, but that no one was in danger.
“We have evacuated some homes as a precaution,” said Acting Deputy Fire Chief, Jack Burt. “Most of the people were not home and only five had to leave.”
The evacuation order impacted after-school pick up for students at Jack Chambers Public School with parents being diverted to Hastings Drive. Students walking home were being kept at the school.
