Family, police call for tips in death of Lake Manitoba First Nation man last seen a year ago
Police and the family of a 25-year-old Lake Manitoba First Nation man who was found dead after he was last seen a year ago are pleading for answers.
Lyndon McIvor was last seen in the early morning hours of August 26, 2023, following a night out with friends, police say. A search began to find the 25-year-old after his friends and family couldn’t reach him and contacted police.
Five days after he was last seen, McIvor’s remains were found by community searchers in a forested area of Lake Manitoba First Nation. Police say they believe his body was dumped there and that there are more people involved in his death.
Cheryl Maytwayashing, McIvor’s mother, says her family’s hearts were “torn and broken” by his death.
“Lyndon was a son, brother, friend and father to two sons who were his pride and joy,” she said in the release.
“We know there are people that have information on his death, and we are asking that you do the right thing and tell police what you know.”
In September, RCMP said they charged Barry Leslie Swan with second-degree murder in connection to McIvor’s death. Court documents show that the charge is still active and that Swan has no co-accused.
Police know there are people out there with “crucial” information about McIvor’s death and ask them to come forward, Sgt. James Demidiuk of Manitoba RCMP’s Major Crime Services said in the Monday news release.
