Josh Classen’s forecast: Cool spell lasts until the weekend
Cool air has settled in over the province and it’ll be here for a few more days.
Most of central and northern Alberta woke up to temperatures in the -5 C to -10 C range this morning and we’ll get two more mornings with similar temperatures.
Frost certainly isn’t unusual in mid-April. But…the average low for Edmonton at this time of year is around 0 C, so we’re well below average.
You can say the same thing about the afternoon temperatures. It’s not “rare” to get a mid-April cool spell, but we’re a long ways off the average high of 11 C.
Temperatures will top out around 2 or 3 C this afternoon and around 5 C Friday afternoon.
Afternoon temperatures wil be back in the 10-15 C range Saturday/Sunday.
Sunny and relatively calm conditions in the Edmonton area this morning will give way to some clouds and wind for this afternoon.
I don’t think we’ll be completely overcast OR as gusty as the past few days, but we’ll some increasing cloudcover and gusts near 30km/h.
Back to sunny skies Friday with light wind.
Long-range outlook: Warm air settles in for next week with daytime highs in the mid to upper teens and morning lows above 0 C.
We’re in a fairly dry pattern as well with no significant moisture in the next five to seven days.
