Toronto police arrest man after senior shot in face with pellet gun
Toronto police have arrested a 27-year-old Toronto man in connection with a random pellet gun attack against a senior in Scarborough earlier this week.
Police allege the man shot a 76-year-old woman with a pellet gun while she was walking along Hupfield Trail near McLevin Avenue Wednesday morning. The victim was shot several times and received minor injuries to her hands and face as a result, police said.
At a news conference Friday morning, Insp. Michael Williams said the woman was traumatized from the event and is concerned about returning to her daily walks in the area. However, Williams thanked members of the community, saying their support and co-operation helped lead to the arrest.
“Very upsetting incident that took place, but at the same time, it’s great to see the community and police working in partnership to identify this person and arrest them,” said Williams, adding the woman is now recovering at home.
In a news release, police said the man is now facing five charges, including assault causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, disguising with intent and breaching a conditional sentence order.
Police described the attack as random. At this time, Williams said it appears the accused was working alone and they haven’t identified any other similar incidents.
The man was scheduled to appear in a Toronto courtroom on Friday, police said.
