2 dead, 1 with life-threatening injuries after suspicious house fire in Mississauga
Two people are dead and another badly injured after a house fire in Mississauga that is being investigated as suspicious, emergency services say.
Crews responded to a home on Bromsgrove Road, near Winston Churchill Boulevard and Royal Windsor Drive, around 3 a.m. Tuesday.
According to Mississauga Fire Chief Deryn Rizzi, two people without vital signs were extracted from bedrooms on the second floor of the residence.
Two other people were able to escape the blaze by themselves, Rizzi said, and were on the front lawn of the home when firefighters arrived. One of those people had serious burns to their body, Rizzi added.
The deceased are a man and a woman, Peel police told media from the scene later Tuesday. No further details about the pair were provided because investigators were still trying to notify their next of kin.
Meanwhile, another woman is in hospital with life-threatening injuries and a man has minor injuries.
A dog and cat were also removed from the house. The dog died, Rizzi said, while the cat was uninjured.
Rizzi said the investigation was transferred to Peel police after firefighters reported “multiple points of origin in the home with significant fire damage,” leading them to believe the blaze may have begun under suspicious circumstances.
Police are investigating the blaze alongside the Ontario Fire Marshal.
“The cause of the fire is unknown at this point … All possibilities are being considered as a part of the investigation,” police said in a statement.
Bromsgrove Road was closed between Cramer Street and Winston Churchill Boulevard. Emergency crews are expected to be on scene for “quite sometime,” police said.
