2 men injured, 2 arrested after shooting, brief car chase near Jane and Sheppard

Two men have been injured and two others have been arrested following a shooting in North York on Saturday evening, Toronto police say.

According to Const. Ed Parks, police received reports of between 10 and 20 shots fired in a townhouse complex near Jane Street and Sheppard Avenue West just before 6:30 p.m.

When officers arrived on scene they found two men suffering from gunshot wounds.

One of the victims was transported to hospital with lower leg injuries. His condition is serious but non-life-threatening, Parks said.

The other victim made his own way to a trauma centre and his condition is unknown.

Meanwhile, police became involved in a brief pursuit after one of the suspects attempted to flee the area in a car.

The man was arrested a short distance later after he crashed into a police vehicle. No injuries were reported as a result of the crash.

In total, two men, ages 27 and 28, were arrested on scene.

Police say pepper spray was deployed at one point during the arrests.

Around 27 shell casings were found on scene, as well as four firearms.

Parks said it’s currently unclear if the suspects or victims lived with the area, or whether or not this was a targeted shooting.

Anyone with information is urged to call police at (416) 808-7400 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
