About 6% of eligible Ontario voters cast an early ballot in snap election, data shows

Just over six per cent of eligible Ontario voters cast an early ballot in the snap provincial election, preliminary data shows.
Elections Ontario said Monday that 678,789 — or roughly 6.14 per cent of the electorate — voted in the three-day advanced voting period.
It’s basically impossible to draw any firm conclusions from the data. The early election call by PC Leader Doug Ford meant the advanced voting period was considerably condensed, as required by the province’s electoral law.
In 2022, more than one million people, or about 9.92 per cent, cast an advanced ballot. But that was over a 10-day window.
In 2018, the advanced voting period was five days, and about 6.8 per cent of those eligible participated, according to Elections Ontario.
Very little about potential election day turnout can be gleaned from the preliminary advanced voting data. That said, final turnout in 2022 was among the lowest in Ontario’s history, with only about 43 per cent of the electorate bothering to show up at the polls.
