Peel police identify 3 people found dead inside Brampton home gutted by fire

Peel police have identified three people found dead inside a Brampton home destroyed by fire earlier this month.

In a news released Friday, police said that Rajiv Warikoo, 51, Shilpa Kotha, 47, and Mahek Warikoo, 16, all lived at the residence in the area of Big Sky Way and Van Kirk Drive prior to the blaze.

The release did not elaborate on the specific nature of their relationships to each other, but a neighbour previously told CBC Toronto a man, woman and their daughter lived in the house.

The fire broke out shortly before 1:30 p.m. on March 7. By the time fire crews arrived, the home was fully engulfed in flames.

During a search of the property after the fire had been brought under control, investigators discovered the remains of three people.

Peel police’s homicide unit is leading the probe into the fatal blaze alongside the Ontario Fire Marshal.

“The circumstances surrounding the house fire remains the focus of an active investigation,” police said in the news release.

Anyone with information or relevant video is asked to contact Peel police or to leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers.
