Family Day 2025: Here’s what open and closed in Toronto on Monday
The Family Day long weekend is here and this year the holiday falls on Monday, Feb. 17
The statutory holiday, one of nine public holidays in Ontario, comes as the city is digging up from a winter storm with more snow in the forecast.
The Ontario government created the provincial public holiday in 2007, naming the third Monday in February as Family Day.
Many establishments will be closed Monday, but some will be open. Here is a list of what’s open and closed on the day.
What’s closed
Public services:
- Ontario government services.
- Toronto schools.
- Major banks.
- Toronto Public Libraries and there is no Bookmobile service.
Groceries and alcohol:
- Check with your local store for their holiday hours.
- All LCBO locations.
- All The Beer Store locations.
Shopping malls:
- CF Fairview Mall.
- CF Sherway Gardens.
- CF Shops at Don Mills.
- Scarborough Town Centre.
- Yorkdale Shopping Centre.
- Dufferin Mall.
- East York Town Centre.
What’s open
Shopping malls:
The Eaton Centre will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Public transit:
- GO Transit: Lakeshore East and Lakeshore West will operate on a Saturday schedule, but customers are urged to visit See Schedules for the modified trip times in case of a winter storm.
- GO Bus will be operating on a regular Saturday schedule but there could be delays due to winter weather. Customers are urged to check the service updates page before travelling.
- The TTC will operate on a holiday schedule, which is its Sunday service schedule, but will start earlier, at about 6 a.m. Any routes that do not normally operate on Sundays will not operate on the holiday.
Canada Post:
There will be regular mail collection and delivery.
Drug stores:
Select Rexall and Shoppers Drug Mart locations will remain open. Check with your local store for their holiday hours.
Movie theatres:
Major movie theatres are open Monday.

Many community recreation centres and outdoor ice rinks will remain open Monday. Check each facility’s webpage for exact times. Call ahead or visit the city’s website for a list of their holiday hours.
