Gas leak prompts closure of portion of Bathurst Street in downtown Toronto
A major downtown artery is closed due to a reported gas leak.
Police received reports of a gas leak at a construction site at Bathurst Street and Wellington Street West, at around 7:40 a.m. this morning.
All the construction workers have been asked to leave the site, police said.
Bathurst Street is currently closed in both directions, to vehicles and pedestrians between King and Front Streets.
Police have asked travellers to use alternate routes until further notice.
The gas leak comes amid another major road closure in the city after a garbage truck down overhead wires at King Street and Spadina Avenue earlier this week.
King Street is still blocked off in both directions between Brant and Charlotte streets and Spadina Avenue is closed from Front to Adelaide streets.
TTC told CP 24 that the intersection is expected to reopen on Friday night.
