Man, 79, dies after being hit by dump truck in East Gwillimbury

A 79-year-old man has died after being hit by a dump truck in East Gwillimbury on Tuesday morning, York Regional Police say.

Police were called to the scene near Davis Drive and Warden Avenue just before 8:30 a.m. for a report of a dump truck hitting a pedestrian, according to a news release Tuesday afternoon.

When they arrived, they found an elderly man with life-threatening injuries.

The man was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The driver remained on scene, they said.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or who has surveillance footage is asked to contact investigators.

Police had closed Davis Drive between Warden Avenue and Kennedy Road for the collision investigation, but it has since been reopened.
