Man found after Vaughan kidnapping, police searching for suspects

York police are searching for three suspects after a man was kidnapped in Vaughan and later found.

Insp. Paolo Fiore of the York Regional Police Service’s homicide unit told reporters Saturday police were called to a building on Westcreek Drive Friday around 6 a.m. for a report of suspicious circumstances.

Officers who responded located an empty black Range Rover and some personal belongings nearby, all of which they later determined belonged to a 57-year-old Toronto man, Fiore said. In a news release Sunday, police said the victim was located by a citizen in the area of Highway 401 and Morningside Avenue at around 3 a.m.

The man was found with minor injuries and was treated at the scene, the release said.

Investigators are appealing to the public for help identifying the suspects.

“Police will continue to dedicate significant resources to find the suspects responsible for the kidnapping, as they are still at large,” the release said.

2 suspect vehicles identified

Surveillance footage showed the man leaving his place of business around 2:15 a.m. when two suspects attacked him and forced him into a grey Honda CRV LX before fleeing the area, Fiore said.

The suspect vehicle was last seen driving east on Langstaff Road and then south on Highway 400, according to police.

Investigators have also identified a second suspect vehicle, which Fiore said was a black Dodge Ram pickup truck with “electronic-powered running boards that retract.”

Fiore said police are currently pursuing three men, all of whom are described as having light-coloured skin, dressed in dark clothing and wearing masks.

They are asking anyone who was driving in the area of Highway 7 and Rutherford Road or Highway 400 and Weston Road between the hours of 1 a.m. and 6 a.m. to check their dashcam footage for the suspect vehicles.

Investigators are also asking anyone else who may have information to contact their homicide unit or to make an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers.
