Mississauga man charged after 5 puppies found in ‘abysmal conditions’
A Mississauga man faces an animal cruelty charge after Peel police found five puppies in “abysmal conditions,” caged in a van without suitable food and water.
The van was in a garage and the puppies were found with urine and feces throughout the cage, Peel Regional Police said in a news release on Thursday.
Police said the accused, a 49-year-old man, has been arrested and charged with the criminal offence of causing unnecessary suffering to animals. He is due to appear in court at a later date.
Police said they were alerted on Sunday about a possible puppy mill that was operating out of a business near Dundas Street W. and Mavis Road.
When officers went to the business on Monday, police said they discovered the puppies and no other animals.
The puppies were taken to a Mississauga animal shelter, where police say they are being cared for, and where they will remain “pending judicial outcome.”
