Road traffic, TTC streetcars running again through King and Spadina after wire repairs finished

The TTC says road traffic and streetcars are running again through the busy downtown intersection of King Street W. and Spadina Avenue after crews finished work to repair overhead wires damaged by a garbage truck earlier this week.

The 504 King and 508 Lake Shore streetcar routes resumed regular service Friday morning, the transit agency said.

The intersection was shut down just after 8 a.m. Tuesday, when a garbage truck with a bin attached to its raised loader downed several wires.

“I want to thank everyone for their tireless efforts to complete this work quickly and safely. I also want to thank our customers for their patience during the closure,” TTC CEO Greg Percy said in a statement on Friday.

“This complex intersection has multiple intertwining cables and connectors supported by multiple poles. All of this infrastructure had first to be inspected to determine the extent of the damage. Once the inspection was complete, crews had to re-string the cables and restore power,” he said.

Road traffic through the intersection resumed before noon on Friday, the TTC said.
