‘Significant’ snowfall possible for Toronto on Friday, federal weather agency says

Environment Canada says a “significant” snowfall is possible for Toronto on Friday and it could have an impact on the evening commute.

The forecast calls for five to 10 centimetres of snow, but exact amounts are not yet clear, the federal weather agency says.

Light snow is expected to start falling in the morning but should become more intense in the afternoon and evening, and to taper off from west to east late Friday night.

The snow could reduce visibility in some areas where the snow is heavier, Environment Canada said.

“Confidence in exact snowfall amounts at this point is low, although many areas may receive five to 10 cm of snow. Note that even higher amounts are possible for areas near Lake Ontario,” the federal weather agency said.

Environment Canada said it may issue winter weather travel advisories or snowfall warnings as the snow event get closer.

There is also a risk of freezing rain for areas near Lake Erie Friday evening, the federal weather agency added.
