1 dead after fiery 2-vehicle crash in southeastern Manitoba

The driver of a vehicle that collided with a semi-trailer is dead following the fiery crash in southwestern Manitoba early Friday morning, RCMP say.

RCMP from St-Pierre-Jolys were called around 1:40 a.m. to the crash on the Trans-Canada Highway, close to Centre of Canada Park northeast of Lorette, police said in a Friday news release.

It’s believed a vehicle driving westbound in the eastbound lane collided with the eastbound semi-trailer, causing both vehicles to hit the ditch and catch fire.

The driver of the semi-trailer, a 36-year-old man, and a passenger, a 37-year-old man, were treated on scene for minor injuries, according to police.

The driver of the other vehicle, who was the lone occupant of that vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. RCMP said that driver has not yet been identified.

St-Pierre-Jolys RCMP and a forensic collision reconstructionist are investigating the crash.
