2 men charged with 1st-degree murder in July death of Winnipeg woman, 28

A man who was arrested last July in connection with the killing of a 28-year-old woman in Winnipeg has now been charged with first-degree murder, with police saying they’ve also detained a new suspect in the woman’s death.
Kenneth Walter Young, 28, and three others were taken into custody after Winnipeg police found the body of Ashley Murdock at an apartment complex on Kennedy Street between Ellice and Qu’Appelle avenues on the morning of July 5, 2024.
Young was initially charged with accessory to murder, but Winnipeg police said in a Thursday news release that charge has been upgraded.
They also said Dregus Daniel Young, 24, has now been charged with first-degree murder in the killing.
Murdock, who was originally from Fisher River and Jackhead First Nation but lived in Winnipeg, had been reported missing two days before her body was found. She had not been in contact with family or community members since June 26.
Investigators determined her body had been moved from another location to the apartment where it was found.
Charles Harold Wood, 38, and Devon Charlie Colomb, 26, were also arrested in July, and charged with accessory to murder in connection with Murdock’s death.
A woman who was also arrested and charged with second-degree murder at that time has since had charges stayed.
