1 person taken to hospital in unstable condition after house fire in Winnipeg

One person has been taken to a Winnipeg hospital in unstable condition after a house fire in the William Whyte neighbourhood Thursday afternoon.

The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service was called with a report of a fire at a one-storey house in the 400 block of Aberdeen Avenue, between Andrews and Aikins streets, shortly before noon.  

Crews could see smoke coming from the house when they arrived, a news release from the city said.

They tried to put out the fire from inside the house, but as conditions deteriorated, it became unsafe to do so, the release said.

Firefighters were able to put out the fire by around 12:45 p.m., and removed one person from inside the house. That person was assessed by paramedics and then taken to hospital, the city city.

The release did not include any identifying details about the person.

A damage estimate is not yet available, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation, the city said.
