17-year-old who split up from family during camping trip northeast of Winnipeg may be in city

A missing teen who has not been seen since she left her family while camping near Selkirk, about 40 kilometres northeast of Winnipeg, over a week ago may be in the provincial capital, RCMP say.

Alexis Traverse, 17, was reported missing to RCMP shortly before 11 p.m. on Aug. 7, police said in a Saturday news release.

Traverse had been camping with her family in the Lower Fort Garry area, about 10 kilometres southwest of Selkirk, when she left and did not return, police say.

Numerous tips have led police to believe that the teen may be in Winnipeg, but officers have yet to make contact with her.

Traverse is described as five feet, five inches tall with a thin build, brown hair and brown eyes, police say.

Anyone with information on her whereabouts is asked to contact Selkirk RCMP at 204-482-1222, or submit an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online.
