Girl, 14, stabbed while walking to meet up with someone: Winnipeg police

A 14-year-old girl was stabbed in Winnipeg’s Norwood East neighbourhood while she was on her way to meet up with someone on Saturday night, police say.

The girl was walking near Niverville Avenue and Champlain Street when she was confronted by a group of girls she didn’t know, a news release said on Sunday.

The group assaulted and stabbed her before fleeing the scene, police said.

A bystander in the area called 911, and police responded around 9:45 p.m., the release said. Members of the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Service arrived first and provided medical care.

The girl was taken to hospital in unstable condition and later upgraded to stable.

The group of girls have yet to be identified, police said.
