Heavy police presence at Square One mall, child rushed to hospital

Six young people have been arrested after a boy was stabbed during a suspected robbery at Square One mall in Mississauga on Friday, police and paramedics say.

Peel Regional Police said the youth was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Const. Tyler Bell-Morena said on X, formerly Twitter, that there was an altercation at the mall shortly after 5 p.m., during which the youth was stabbed.

Police along with mall security, responded. Six people — boys and girls — were arrested.

According to Peel paramedics, the boy suffered “serious injuries from a penetrating trauma.” His exact age has not been released.

There was a “significant” police presence at the mall following the incident. The public is asked to avoid the area if possible.

Police said there is no further threat to public safety.
