High winds, substantial hail hit southern Manitoba during 3 rounds of severe weekend weather
Southern Manitoba was hit by three rounds of severe weather between Friday and Saturday night, and some parts of the province got hail as big as tennis balls, according to a preliminary report from Environment Canada.
In the first round of thunderstorms on Friday evening, wind gusts of 96 km/h were reported in Argue, Man., as well as hail the size of a golf ball in the town of Bisset, Environment Canada said Saturday.
Early Saturday morning, the second round of severe thunderstorms brought wind gusts of 91 km/h to the city of Brandon, and Winnipeg got 12 to 15 millimetres of rain.
West of Winnipeg, the communities of Elie and Shilo both got over 30 millimetres of rain early Saturday. In between them, the community of Austin got wind gusts of 106 km/h.
Nearby Austin, the Pine Creek Colony was hit by hail the size of a tennis ball on Saturday afternoon, Environment Canada says. St. Malo was also hit by hail the size of a golf ball.
