Man charged with 68 offences after string of thefts, break-ins and fraud in Winnipeg

A 27-year-old man who police allege is a “prolific offender” has been charged with dozens of crimes following a string of thefts around Winnipeg that began in late August 2024.
Among the 68 offences are vehicle thefts, break-ins, uttering threats, mischief, fraud and failing to comply with prior court orders.
The man was previously charged after a stolen vehicle led police on a chase in 2018, and then again in 2019 after a series of armed robberies.
Police say the first offence in the latest charges was the theft in August 2024 of a pickup truck while the driver was inside paying for gas at a station on Pembina Highway.
The following month, a man walked into a restaurant on Pembina and stole a customer’s jacket containing vehicle keys and a wallet. He stole the vehicle and made several fraudulent transactions using the victim’s credit card, police said.
The same evening, a man broke the window of a parked car on Border Street and then threatened to kill the owner when he showed up. No injuries were reported before the man drove off in the car he had earlier stolen from the restaurant, police said.
Soon after, a man went into a shop on St. James Avenue and stole a Fender electric guitar, a laptop, an iPad Pro and various electronics.
Hair salon, animal hospital, church
In October, a man went into a hair salon on Corydon Avenue and stole keys from a customer’s purse, then drove off in the victim’s SUV.
Days later a man went into an animal hospital on Pembina and stole purses from two employees, then took a vehicle belonging to one of the victims. That was the first of two vehicles stolen that day, the other being taken from St. Mary’s Road, police said.
Sometime between Oct. 15-16, a window was broken at a business on Sage Creek Boulevard and a laptop and computer monitor were stolen. Later on the 16th, a man broke two windows of a restaurant on Dakota Street and stole approximately $2,000, a cash tray and six bottles of liquor.
Police spotted the man on Pembina, driving the vehicle stolen from St. Mary’s Road, but the man ran away after the vehicle was stopped.
In December, a man went up to a person sitting in a parked vehicle on Corydon Avenue. He stole the vehicle and the person’s wallet.
Later in the month, a man went into a restaurant on Island Shore Boulevard and stole a jacket containing keys to a vehicle, which he then stole as well.
On New Year’s Eve, a man got into a vehicle that had a woman and infant inside in a parking lot on St. Anne’s Road. He stole the woman’s iPhone, then left.
In early January, a man smashed the window of a vehicle parked in a restaurant lot on Marion Street but nothing was reported stolen, police said.
Approximately an hour later, a man went into a church on Lakewood Boulevard and stole a cellphone and wallet from a parishioner’s jacket. Several fraudulent transactions were made at convenience stores using the victim’s credit card.
Over the next two months, phones, wallets, computers and various other items were stolen from:
- A temple on Pembina Highway.
- A music school on St. Anne’s Road.
- A vehicle parked at a music school on North Town Road.
- A restaurant on Pembina Highway.
- A trade school on Scurfield Road.
- A parked car on St. Mary’s Road.
- A parked car on Meadowood Drive.
Multiple transactions were made during that time using stolen credit cards, police said.
The man was arrested at his home on Feb. 12.
