Man dies after being critically injured in assault near hotel in Winnipeg
A man who was rushed to hospital in critical condition after a serious assault Thursday night in Winnipeg has died.
Police were called around 10 p.m. to an area near the Airport Motor Inn on Ellice Avenue. They immediately shut down Ellice between Berry and Marjorie streets and didn’t reopen it until 10 hours later, around 8 a.m. Friday.
Police say a weapon is believed to have been involved but haven’t released information on what type. The also didn’t say anything about the man’s age.
A news conference is being held at 11 a.m., where police will provide more details about the homicide.
The forensic identification unit was at the scene early Friday, taking photographs of a bus shelter in front of the Airport Motor Inn.
Evidence markers were placed in a number of spots on the ground, next to what appeared to be items of clothing.
Several people were taken into police custody for questioning, but there is no word on whether any charges have been laid.
