Pallister to update COVID-19 enforcement after fine handed out at church service

WINNIPEG — Manitoba Premier Brian Pallister has more to say on the enforcement of COVID-19 health orders in the province, after a weekend that saw at least one person fined for attending a church service.

Pallister will be updating the province on COVID-19 enforcement this morning at 11 a.m. at the Manitoba Legislative building. CTV News will live-stream this event. You can watch it live here.

The update comes after RCMP handed one person a $1,296 ticket for attending a drive-in service at the Church of God Restoration near Steinbach, Man. The church itself was previously fined $5,000 for holding an in-person service.

This church was not the only one attracting crowds over the weekend. Hundreds of cars filled the parking lot at Springs Church on Lagimodiere Boulevard on Sunday morning during three separate services, as well as one on Saturday.

A spokesperson for the province would not say at the time whether any fines were handed out.

This is a developing story. More to come.
