Police safely disengage ‘suspicious item’ on Elgin Avenue

The Winnipeg Police Service’s bomb unit was called to Elgin Avenue Saturday night for the report of a suspicious item in a back lane of the street.

The Winnipeg Police Service’s bomb unit was called to Elgin Avenue Saturday night for the report of a suspicious item in a back lane of the street.

The item was described as having a blinking red light, visible wires and smoke coming from it, police said in a news release Sunday. 

Police said a bomb robot “safely disengaged the device” and the area was deemed safe around 12:30 a.m. Sunday.
