Sex offender Darrel Ackman, who posted videos as MrJetzTV, being released, considered risk to reoffend: police

A convicted child sex offender is being released from prison and is considered a risk to offend, Winnipeg police say.

Darrell Erwin Ackman, 55, was released from Stony Mountain Institution on Wednesday after he was sentenced to more than 10 years for three counts of sexual assault, invitation to sexual touching, three counts of publishing or having possession of child pornography and six counts of living on the avails of prostitution, police said in a news release.

Between 2011 and 2012, he targeted vulnerable girls by gaining their trust and exploiting them in the sex trade for his financial gain. Ackman, who posted YouTube videos of women and teenage girls under the online moniker MrJetzTV, was found guilty in 2016 and sentenced to 15 years in prison, minus time served.

A man found guilty of running a prostitution ring with underage girls and making child pornography has been sentenced to 15 years in prison, minus the time he has already served behind bars.

He has a history of violent and sexual offences and has participated in some sex offender programming but is still considered at risk to reoffend, police said in a Wednesday news release. Young girls, especially adolescents, are particularly at risk, according to police.

Ackman is expected to live in Winnipeg after his release Wednesday, police say. He is prohibited from attending public parks or swimming areas where minors are present or are expected to be present for the next 15 years. He is also prohibited from being at daycare or community centres, and schools or playgrounds.

He is also not allowed to communicate with a person under 16, unless supervised by someone the court has approved, and he cannot be employed or volunteer in a position with authority over any person under 16.

Ackman faces additional conditions until November 2028 that require him to live at a location that’s been approved by Correctional Service Canada, including refraining from owning or using wireless devices or computers unless pre-authorized in writing by a parole supervisor and from accessing pornography or sexually explicit material of children and teens.

Police ask anyone with information to share about Ackman to call the Manitoba integrated high risk sex offender unit at 431-489-8056, the Winnipeg Police Service at 204-986-6222, a local RCMP detachment or Manitoba Crime Stoppers at 204-786-8477 (toll-free at 1-800-222-8477).

Police say that any form of vigilante activity or “other unreasonable conduct” directed at Ackman will not be tolerated.
